International arbitration owes much of its current shape to the practitioners and scholars who built it, case by case, over decades of practice at the intersection of commerce, diplomacy, and the rule of law. This session looks back at a lifetime commitment to international arbitration and the rule of law, tracing how the field has evolved and what principles have endured through decades of change. Reflecting on careers spanning jurisdictions, institutions, and generations of arbitrators, the discussion will consider what today's practitioners can learn from this experience as arbitration confronts new pressures on the rule of law.

These issues will be addressed during the Swedish Arbitration Days in a conversation between Carolyn Lamm and Kaj Hobér. The discussion will be moderated by Filippa Exelin.
