For our field trip, we will head to the official national landscapes of Finland: Koli National Park.
Boasting with pristine forests and large lakes, the area is a gem among Eastern Finland. When you take in the marvellous view over Lake Pielinen from the top of Ukko-Koli hill, it's easy to see why this spot has attracted so many Finnish artists, photographers and nature-lovers over the centuries. The splendid scenery always instills a sense of serenity and wonder in visitors. Koli's hills and lakes provide fine settings for enjoyable outings and activities at any time of year.
Our activites will cover many aspects related to moose management and research in Finland, accompanied by fine food and magnificent views and hikes. Details will be given later.
For our post-conference tour, we will take you to a lake cruise couple with some medieval history, modern forestry and its history, research.. and oh yes, good food and relaxing atmosphere.
The venue will be Finland's largest lake Saimaa, the City of Savonlinna with itse medieval Olavinlinna Castle, and the Finnish Forest Museum Lusto, which is set in a stunning landscape where forest and lakes are spread out in a neverending mosaic. There is also a research forest and arboretum at the site (which we'll be visiting). These are managed by Natural Resources Institute Finland.
