In 2025, Finland holds the Chairpersonship of the OSCE. In the second dimension, Finland focuses on issues relating to climate security. In light of this responsibility and focus, we will organize a Conference on Climate and Security on 11 June 2025. The Conference offers a platform for a wide range of stakeholders to exchange on challenges and opportunities in the field of climate, peace and security.
Climate change has a wide impact on societies and their security throughout the OSCE region. OSCE provides an excellent framework to discuss the climate issues given the organization’s comprehensive concept of security. The Conference aims to address climate and security from various perspectives. The tentative programme includes three thematic discussions preceded by an opening session. The main topics include the environmental and climate cost of conflicts, the participation of business in shaping climate security, and the role of environmental and climate defenders.
The Conference is planned and organized with a wide range of partners from local to global. We expect participants representing the OSCE participating States, Partners for Co-operation, international organisations, local administration, civil society and business. The OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation are expected to participate at expert level. In line with the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ guidelines for sustainable meeting practices, and in order to ensure accessibility, the event will be live-streamed.
We warmly welcome you to the Conference and kindly ask for you to complete your registration by 31 May 2025.
