La Fayette and the American South: A Little-Known Story
As the United States commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Consulate General of France in Miami and Villa Albertine are pleased to present a talk by Vincent Bouat-Ferlier exploring a lesser-known chapter of American history.
Executive Director of the Chambrun Foundation, which preserves Lafayette’s historic estate and one of the most significant archival collections relating to his life and legacy, Vincent Bouat-Ferlier will offer fresh insights into Lafayette’s connections with the American South and the pivotal role France played in the American struggle for independence. By exploring Lafayette’s ties to the American South, the lecture will shed light on a fascinating and often overlooked chapter of the Franco-American story.
Following the lecture, attendees will have an opportunity to continue the conversation and engage with the speaker during an informal exchange moderated by Dr. Anthony Atwood, a distinguished public historian, military history expert, founding Executive Director of the Miami-Dade Military Museum, Professor of History at Florida International University, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
