Welcome to Ecosystem Partnership Day
Live event at Outokumpu Kemi Mine, Tuesday June 2, 2026, 8:30–16:30
Join us at the Outokumpu Kemi Mine for a full-day on-site event focused on the future utilization of mining side streams. The event provides a detailed view into the mine’s waste rock and tailings, their characteristics, and their potential as raw materials for new products and industrial applications.
Participants will gain a practical understanding of the volumes, quality and availability of side streams, as well as the ecosystem model being developed to enable their utilization at scale. The event is intended for companies and organizations interested in developing solutions, technologies or business concepts based on mining side streams.
The program includes:
• Introduction to Outokumpu’s circular economy approach and the role of the Kemi Mine
• In-depth overview of waste rock and tailings, including material data and utilization potential
• Discussions with Outokumpu experts and ecosystem partners
• Guided site visit to the Kemi Mine side stream areas (waste rock stockpiles and tailings ponds)
• Pre-booked one-to-one meetings to present ideas and explore collaboration opportunities (we aim to accommodate meeting requests as broadly as possible; however, meetings will be scheduled based on relevance and availability)
• Networking opportunities throughout the day (light lunch included)
The event offers a concrete starting point for companies aiming to take part in piloting, product development and future business opportunities related to mining side streams. The event will primarily be held in Finnish, with key parts also available in English if needed. As the number of participants is limited, registrations will be confirmed based on relevance, alignment with the objectives of the initiative, and available capacity.
Participants visiting Kemi are also encouraged to attend the Arctic Circular Economy Forum (ACEF) taking place the following day. ACEF is an established annual event that brings together international industry leaders, experts and decision-makers to discuss the latest developments in circular economy, sustainable industry and future value chains. It provides an excellent opportunity to expand networks, gain broader insights and connect this initiative to wider circular economy discussions.
