Follow the money - join our workshop on digital investigations by award-winning Craig Silverman and Johanna Vehkoo

In this workshop Craig Silverman will equip journalists with cutting edge skills and techniques to analyze websites and digital ads in order to determine ownership, uncover hidden connections, follow the money, and track political and social issues campaigns. You'll learn how to use a range of free and easy-to-use tools and approaches to evaluate a site's content, infrastructure, and ownership. Then you'll use digital ads to understand how a site earns money, who its partners are, and who's pocketing the ad revenue. Students will also learn strategies for searching the Meta and Google digital ad libraries. The workshop is open to journalists on any beat and at any level of expertise. Bring your laptop! The event will be moderated by journalist, non-fiction author Johanna Vehkoo.
Craig Silverman is an award-winning journalist and author and one of the world's leading experts on online disinformation and digital investigations. He writes the Digital Investigations newsletter and was most recently a national reporter with ProPublica, where he investigated digital platforms and online manipulation. Craig previously served as media editor of BuzzFeed News, where he pioneered coverage of digital disinformation and media manipulation.

This free-of-charge event is reserved for the members of the Union of Journalists in Finland. It is produced by the Union and Journalistisen kulttuurin edistämissäätiö Jokes. It will be held in English at the union office in Helsinki on Tuesday, 10th of June at 10-13.30. Please note that the registration is binding. In case of no-show there will be a 50 e cancellation fee.
