Primarily Digital Official Communications – Info on 15.1.2026 at 10:00
Digital communication will become the primary method for official communications in 2026. Starting from 12 January 2026, Suomi.fi Messages will be activated for you when you log in to an authority’s e-service, such as MyTax, using strong identification. Upon strong identification, an electronic mailbox will be created for you in Suomi.fi Messages. From then on, you will receive official communications as digital post in Suomi.fi Messages. This change applies to adults who use e-services.
In 2026, electronic messages will be introduced for individuals who:
- log in to an authority’s e-service (such as the Tax Administration, the Police, or Kela) using strong electronic identification (e.g. online banking credentials or a mobile certificate), and
- have not yet activated Suomi.fi Messages.
The change does not apply to:
- individuals who do not use authorities’ e-services with strong identification but handle matters through other channels
- individuals who do not have a means of strong electronic identification, such as a mobile certificate or online banking credentials
- individuals who do not have a Finnish personal identity code
- individuals under guardianship or with a valid continuing power of attorney recorded in the Register of Guardianship Affairs
- minors companies
This information session will provide an overview of Suomi.fi Messages and the transition to primarily digital official communications. The session will cover the basics: what is happening, why, and how to return to paper mail if needed. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.
The session will be held in English. A participation link will be sent to all registered participants before the event. The session will be recorded, and a link to the recording will be sent to all registrants.
