Artist meeting with Belfast composer Conor Mitchell
Conor Mitchell (b. 1977) is a Belfast-born composer. He composes for symphony orchestra and combines exciting influences from other musical genres in his works, as well as incorporating stage elements such as video art.
Johanna Freundlich, Artistic Director of the Helsinki Festival, will discuss Conor Mitchell's work "Riot Symphony". The Finnish National Opera's orchestra and guest soloists will perform the work the following evening at the festival in the main Concert Hall of the Helsinki Music Centre.
The discussion will also expand to questions about the composer's eclectic and groundbreaking work in Northern Ireland and beyond. Mitchell's unique style of combining art with human rights issues will also spark a discussion more generally about art, the struggles of the contemporary world and how the two are intertwined.
