8th Nordic STS conference

We are now accepting session proposals only. The call for individual papers will be opened on December 1st, 2026.

Please read the instructions carefully. The organizing committee can't guarantee that proposals that don't meet requirements will be considered.

Session types

Traditional Open Panels

Composed of academic paper presentations, possibly followed by reflections by a discussant.

Combined Format Open Panels

Includes academic paper presentations and experimental formats, such as dialogue sessions, theater experiments, workshops, etc. For example, you could have one session with academic papers, a second session for a workshop, and a third session for a dialogue as part of the same Open Panel. Describe the types of submissions you welcome in the abstract field of the session submission form.

Making and Exploratory Practices Sessions

Invites submissions of experimental work and exploratory practices that are best presented interactively, outside of a traditional panel format. Making & Doing encourages STS researchers to share work that extends beyond the academic paper or book. Contributions that take up speculative, participatory, and/or reflexive approaches to the study of science, technology and society, and that experiment with modes of knowledge production and expression are particularly welcomed.

Longer Conference Workshops on Thursday 17th June

Provide a possibility to engage participants in day-long, more in-depth engagements with a topic or an area of interest. The workshopping can take the form of, for instance, advanced tutorial to a theory or methodology, collaborative inquiry into an area of interest, a hands-on making or exploratory engagement, or engaging a particular constituency in STS such as early career researchers in a ’writeshop’.

There will be a separate registration for workshops. Workshops that require rents for special equipment or materials may charge an additional fee from the participants.

The making and exploratory sessions and workshops are held in Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture that provides the following types of spaces: traditional open space classrooms; exhibition spaces; spaces where you can make a (temporary) mess to prepare something.
