Excel advanced 1 – importing data and calculations

In the Excel Advanced 1 training, we will familiarize ourselves with the most important advanced features of Excel, including importing data from different sources, as well as calculations and functions.

This training is the first part of the Excel Advanced course. The second part is a separate training session that focuses on dynamic calculations and PivotTables.

Goal 

You will learn how to import data from different sources and analyze it using functions. We will also take a look at Xlookup, Vlookup and Sumifs functions, as well as how to use functions inside of a function.

Target audience 

This training is suitable for Excel users who already know the basics of Excel, such as how to use tables and perform calculations with formulas.

Program version 

This training is suitable for Excel 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2022 for Windows, as well as Excel 2016 for Mac.

Content  

Advanced use of Excel 

• Review of the basics: cell formatting, calculations in Excel, and absolute references
• Importing and updating data from different sources: Power Query and queries
• Managing data within and between cells: splitting and combining data using formulas
• Go To Special feature: conditional selection of cells

Advanced calculating  

• Using “Format as Table” in calculations
• Conditional calculations with functions: IF and SUMIFS
• Retrieving and linking data with functions such as LOOKUP, VLOOKUP, and the newer XLOOKUP
• Combining functions: SORT/UNIQUE and IFERROR/AVERAGEIFS
